Earthquakes in Kon Plong district have occurred frequently and continuously since 2021. This area recorded the largest earthquake in recent years at 4.7, which occurred on the afternoon of August 23, 2022.

Director of the Institute of Geophysics Nguyen Xuan Anh said that the earthquakes that occurred in the above area were stimulated earthquakes, which could appear frequently for a period of time, then subside. Based on recorded earthquake data, it is shown that Kon Tum province in general and Kon Plong district in particular belong to a small fault zone. Previous studies have shown that earthquakes in this area have a magnitude of no more than 5.0. The Institute of Geophysics regularly informs the authorities and people in this area about earthquake activities. The Institute's staff continues to monitor and process data on earthquakes in Kon Plong district.

Director Nguyen Xuan Anh advised that although earthquakes in this area occur frequently, they have not reached a level that would cause a risk warning. People should not be too worried but should stay calm, strictly follow the instructions of local authorities and competent agencies; at the same time, proactively reinforce their houses and equip themselves with knowledge on earthquake prevention and control. Local authorities and competent agencies need to increase propaganda on prevention and control methods; at the same time, clearly inform people about the intensity and risk level of recent earthquakes.

People and authorities in this area also need to pay attention to earthquake resistance factors in construction. Authorities at all levels need to regularly disseminate and guide people on measures to prevent, avoid and minimize damage when strong earthquakes occur. In particular, when an earthquake occurs, authorities and people in the affected area need to strictly follow the regulations in Decision No. 78/2007/QD-TTg dated May 29, 2007 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the Regulations on earthquake and tsunami prevention and control.
