Doan Tung Commune - A bright spot in fire prevention and fighting

Many fire prevention models

Doan Tung commune has about 2,600 households, of which more than 600 households are engaged in business and trading. Therefore, fire prevention and fighting work is of special concern to the government and people. In June 2021, this locality established a self-management team on fire prevention, fighting and rescue with 96 members. This is the second locality in the province to deploy this model after Thanh Tung commune (in Thanh Mien district).

According to Mr. Nguyen Viet Tuyen, Head of the Self-Managed Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Team of Doan Tung Commune, the members of the team are mainly business households and traders in the area. Before its establishment, everyone voluntarily contributed nearly 500 million VND to buy 5 fire pumps, fire extinguishers, protective clothing, gas masks and many other equipment for fire prevention, fire fighting and rescue.

"In addition to purchasing equipment, we also regularly participate in training courses on fire prevention, fire fighting, rescue, and on-site fire fighting practice organized by the district police. Up to now, the number of members in the commune's self-managed fire prevention, fire fighting, and rescue team has reached 106 people," said Mr. Tuyen.

Doan Tung Commune also established 19 inter-family fire prevention and fighting safety groups with 120 members; a civil defense fire prevention and fighting team with 36 members...

Most recently, the locality launched the movement "My house has a fire extinguisher" with the response of many people. The goal of the movement is that 100% of households in the commune have fire extinguishers at home. For disadvantaged households, the commune government has mobilized the socialization of 100 fire extinguishers to support. Up to now, in Doan Tung commune, about 90% of households have been equipped with fire extinguishers and are proficient in using them.

Practical effectiveness

Thanks to the establishment of a widespread fire prevention and fighting network, a number of fires occurring in Doan Tung commune were detected early and promptly extinguished. From 2021 to present, the Self-Managed Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Team has controlled and extinguished 5 small fires in the commune. Of which, 2 were related to electrical short circuits, 1 gas tank fire and 2 house fires. Due to early detection, most of these fires did not cause major damage to people and property.

Currently, most fire prevention and fighting models in Doan Tung commune have established a Zalo group to update their activities. Each model has its own hotline and has someone to receive information 24/7. Periodically every month and every year, the models will coordinate to organize maintenance and repair of machinery; practice using fire fighting equipment to improve knowledge and skills. Up to now, most members of the groups have mastered the fire prevention, fighting and rescue procedures, and are ready to respond when an incident occurs.

According to Mr. Tuyen, when an incident occurs, the grassroots fire prevention and fighting teams will be the core force, effectively and quickly handling fire situations, helping to reduce human and property damage caused by fire and explosion. In addition to participating in fire prevention work, self-management teams, inter-family teams, civil defense teams... in Doan Tung commune also directly propagate and guide people to raise awareness of fire prevention and fighting; coordinate with local police forces to organize patrols to ensure security and order in the area.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Doan Tung Commune, said: "The models were established to mobilize people to actively participate in fire prevention, fire fighting and rescue work at the grassroots level, minimizing damage caused by fires and explosions. In recent times, most of the models have operated effectively and safely, contributing to maintaining political security and ensuring social order and safety in the locality."
