Low pressure area will strengthen into tropical depression, flood warning in Central region

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 4 p.m., the center of the low pressure area was at about 14.5-15.5 degrees North latitude; 110.5-111.5 degrees East longitude, in the sea southwest of Hoang Sa.

It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the low pressure area will move slowly to the Northwest, about 5km per hour, and is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.

At 4:00 p.m. on October 17, the center of the tropical depression was at about 15.8 degrees North latitude; 109.8 degrees East longitude, in the sea off the coast of the Central Central provinces. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (40-50 km/h), gusting to level 8. Waves were 2-3 meters high.

Dangerous areas in the East Sea in the next 24 hours (strong winds level 6, gusts from level 8): from latitude 13.5 to 17.5 degrees North; west of longitude 112.5 degrees East. All ships operating in the dangerous area are at high risk of being affected by strong gusts and big waves. Warning level 3 natural disaster risk.

On land, on October 16, in the area from Thua Thien - Hue to the North of Binh Dinh, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places.

It is forecasted that from the afternoon of October 16 to October 18, in the area from Quang Tri to Quang Nam, there will be heavy to very heavy rain with common rainfall from 150 - 250mm, some places over 350mm. The area from Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Quang Ngai will have moderate rain, heavy rain, some places very heavy rain with common rainfall from 50 - 150mm, some places over 200mm.

In addition, on the night of October 16-17, in the Central Highlands, the South and other places in the South Central region, there will be rain, moderate rain and thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain with rainfall of 30 - 60 mm, in some places over 100 mm (thunderstorms are concentrated in the afternoon and night).

It is forecasted that on October 19, the area from Nghe An to Quang Tri will have moderate to heavy rain with rainfall ranging from 50-100 mm, with some places over 150 mm. Heavy rain in the area from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai will gradually decrease from the afternoon of October 18.

Beware of the risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding of rice fields and crops in low-lying areas; beware of heavy rain in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
