Vietnam is among the top 30 largest exporting economies in the world with 354 billion USD in exported goods in 2023.
In 2023, total global merchandise exports reached $23.8 trillion, down 5% from the previous year.
The largest exporting economy is China, with exports of $3.4 trillion last year, nearly $1.4 trillion more than the second-placed United States.
The last time the United States was the world’s largest exporter was in 1979. But since then, the country has run a widening trade deficit. But energy exports—the largest U.S. export—have swung from a deficit to a surplus over the past decade. Substantial increases in domestic energy production have helped the world’s largest economy avoid oil price shocks like the one triggered by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Germany is the world's third-largest exporting economy, with exports rising 1% in 2023 compared to the previous year despite negative economic growth. The economy, heavily dependent on industry, has been hit hard by rising oil prices, with many businesses even having to suspend production.
Vietnam is also in the top 30 largest exporting economies in the world, ranked 23rd. In 2023, Vietnam exported 354 billion USD of goods, accounting for 1.5% of the world.
