Ukraine claims to have shot down dozens of UAVs in Russian attack

The Ukrainian Armed Forces said they shot down 47 Shahed and other UAVs in several provinces during the Russian-led offensive.

On January 2, Russia attacked Ukraine with 72 Shahed and other unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), of which 47 were destroyed and 24 failed to reach their targets.

According to a statement from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 8:30 a.m. on January 2 local time, Ukraine had shot down 47 Shahed UAVs and other types in the Poltava, Sumy, Kharkov, Kiev, Chernihiv, Cherkassy, ​​Kirovograd, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Kherson and Nikolaev provinces.

24 UAVs were lost without incident.

The statement added that the Russian UAVs were launched from Russia's Bryansk, Orel, Kursk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions.

Earlier, on December 31, 2024, local authorities said Russia had launched missile attacks on Ukraine, targeting the capital Kiev and the Sumy region.

Mayor Mykola Noha wrote on Facebook that some infrastructure in the city of Shostka in the Sumy region was destroyed. The attack also damaged 12 apartment buildings, two educational institutions, a dormitory and a clinic in Shostka.

In Kiev, according to the capital's military authorities, debris from intercepted missiles damaged two vehicles and three private buildings.
