As the weather turns cold, the number of elderly people in Hai Duong who have to be hospitalized for respiratory diseases has increased compared to mid-November.
According to Hai Duong Lung Hospital, for over a week now, the hospital has received nearly 150 patients every day, mostly elderly people. The number of patients coming for examination has only increased by about 10%, but the number of patients requiring hospitalization has increased by about 30% compared to mid-November.
According to doctors, the cold weather is one of the main reasons for the increase in the number of patients. Especially for the elderly, weak resistance is accompanied by chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis ... when the weather changes, the disease can easily become severe, many cases of respiratory failure. Patients admitted to the hospital often have symptoms such as difficulty breathing, wheezing, phlegm ... some cases have signs of stroke. More than half of the patients coming to the clinic have to be hospitalized for treatment.
At Hai Duong General Hospital and some district hospitals, the number of elderly people coming for examination and hospitalization also increased by 15 - 20% compared to previous warm sunny days.
Doctors recommend that people keep their bodies warm when it is cold, especially the elderly with a history of cardiovascular diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary artery disease, and respiratory diseases. Avoid going out in cold weather suddenly in the morning, especially when you first wake up or late at night when the outside temperature drops. Follow a healthy diet, get enough sleep, exercise properly, get vaccinated against flu and other infectious diseases...
