In the early morning of March 25, at the final of the World 3-cushion carom billiards team tournament, two players Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh excellently brought home the championship.
A few hours earlier in the semi-finals, Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh also had difficulties against the US team. Tran Quyet Chien helped bring home the victory in the first match against Raymon Groot.
But then Bao Phuong Vinh lost to Hugo Patino. This forced the two teams to play a doubles match, meaning all four players compete on one table and take turns to play 15 points. Here, the Vietnamese pair almost lost but made a brilliant comeback to win 15-13, entering the final.
In the championship match, Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh met the Spanish pair Ruben Legazpi - Sergio Jimenez. The two singles matches took place in parallel on two different tables.
Bao Phuong Vinh did not have much trouble against Jimenez, who is only ranked 188th in the world. Thanks to that, the Vietnamese player had many consecutive series of points and won 40-22.
After winning, Bao Phuong Vinh had to wait for the result of the confrontation between Tran Quyet Chien and Legazpi. In contrast to the next table, Tran Quyet Chien had a lot of difficulties against his opponent.
The two players fought fiercely. Tran Quyet Chien started the match by scoring 11 consecutive points. But Legazpi took advantage of the Vietnamese player's lack of concentration to take the lead 20-11.
Tran Quyet Chien did not give up easily as he later narrowed the score to 28-30, 30-32. However, Legazpi tried very hard to avoid being leveled. The Spanish player won by a close margin of 40-38.
The draw forced the final to a doubles match. Once again, the fans had to endure moments of suspense and breathlessness. The Vietnamese pair started well to lead 11-5. Despite being tied at 11-11 by their opponents, Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh took the lead to 14-11 and were only 1 point away from the championship.
But Bao Phuong Vinh missed the opportunity regrettably and gave the opportunity back to Spain. When the opponent could not take advantage, it was Tran Quyet Chien's turn to miss. Thanks to that, Jimenez and Legazpi tied the score at 14-14 and almost had the victory in their hands. However, right at the door of glory, the two Spanish players suddenly collapsed.
Bao Phuong Vinh had a chance to make amends. This time he handled it correctly, helping the Vietnamese team win 15-14 and become champions.
This is Vietnam's first world team carom billiard championship. Previously in 2023, Bao Phuong Vinh won the world championship in the individual event.
In early March this year, Tran Quyet Chien won the World Cup held in Colombia.
