Japanese car brand Toyota launched the new generation Land Cruiser Prado in the Vietnamese market on October 16. According to the company, Land Cruiser Prado (or Prado for short) will be displayed at the Vietnam Motor Show 2024 from October 24. Prado 2024 continues to be imported from Japan. Toyota's two SUV lines are also known by their code names, in which LC300 is Land Cruiser and LC250 is Prado.

Exterior

The new generation Prado is similar to its predecessors Toyota Land Cruiser or Lexus GX, both developed on the TNGA chassis platform. In the new generation, Prado has a more square and masculine appearance than the previous generation with many neat cuts creating a muscular shape. The hood is combined with a radiator grille with large vertical bars painted in black. New rectangular LED headlights, with automatic adaptive technology. Newly shaped LED taillights, increasing attraction.

The new generation SUV has a length x width x height of 4,925 x 1,980 x 1,935 mm and a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. This size is larger than the previous generation with the corresponding figures of 4,840 x 1,885 x 1,845 mm and a wheelbase of 2,790.

The outside rearview mirrors are electrically adjustable, integrated with heating and automatically lower when reversing. The car is equipped with 20-inch cast aluminum wheels with a 6-spoke design in black tones. The rear trunk opens up instead of opening horizontally like the old version. The trunk is electric, opens/closes hands-free, while the glass panel can be opened separately.

Interior

Toyota designed the Prado interior with many convenient and luxurious equipment, 7-seat configuration. Three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, 4-way electric adjustment and position memory. Dashboard with 12.3-inch multi-information screen with 12 interface options. New 12.3-inch entertainment touch screen, replacing the 7-inch screen on the old generation. Supports wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connection.

Large panoramic sunroof depending on version. 14-speaker JBL sound system. HUD windshield display.

Engine

Abandoning the old 2.7 gasoline engine with 164 horsepower and 246 Nm of maximum torque, the 2024 Prado is equipped with a 2.4 gasoline engine with 267 horsepower and 430 Nm of maximum torque. With a smaller engine but with superior power and torque to the previous generation, the new Prado promises to operate more powerfully, be lighter and more fuel-efficient.

The 8-speed automatic transmission is the first to replace the 6-speed, combining 4WD with a 2-speed transfer case, as well as a center differential and a rear differential lock. The car uses AVS adaptive suspension and a multi-terrain selection system. The car has 5 driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport S, Sport S+ and 4 terrain modes.

Safety technology

The 2024 Prado is equipped with a standard Toyota Safety Sense active safety package (ADAS), with features such as pre-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning, and rear cross-traffic alert.

In addition, the car is still fully equipped with familiar technologies such as ABS/EBD/BA brakes, hill start assist, downhill assist, 360 camera, front/rear sensors, tire pressure warning, electric balance, traction control, 8 airbags.

Price

The new generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is sold in two versions in the Vietnamese market. The single sunroof version costs 3.46 billion VND and the panoramic sunroof version costs 3.48 billion VND. Meanwhile, the old generation Prado costs 2.6 billion VND.

The price increase of more than 800 million VND, or nearly 31% of the car price, is a shock in the auto market because there are few products with such a price jump. However, with Prado or Land Cruiser, many sales experts say that this is just a "number" to hear. In reality, these two car lines have their own customer base, willing to spend. For example, when Land Cruiser was launched, the price was 4 billion, but in reality, transactions up to 6 billion were still sought after.

In Vietnam, Land Cruiser Prado is in segment E, where there are Ford Explorer or Volkswagen Teramont. However, with different designs and prices, Prado has almost no competitors.

In 2023, Prado sold only 202 cars, while its senior Land Cruiser sold 554 cars. By 2024, Prado had no more cars to sell.

At the end of July, official Toyota dealers said there were no new generation Prado models available for immediate delivery, while some private showrooms offered them for around VND500-600 million.
