Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a speech at the signing of agreements on the results of the referendum on the accession of new territories.

Mr. Putin spoke on September 30.

According to Russian news agency RIA Novosti, on September 30, the Kremlin held a signing ceremony for a treaty on the accession of new territories to Russia.

The signing ceremony was attended by the heads of the Luhansk and Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Putin said: “People have made their choice, a clear choice.”

According to Mr. Putin, people living in Luhansk and Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia "will become Russian citizens forever."

On this occasion, the Russian leader urged Ukraine to return to the negotiating table, but did not discuss new territories annexed to Russia.

Mr Putin also called on Ukraine to "respect the choice of the above territories", noting that this could be the "path to peace".

Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that if Russia recognized the referendums in the above territories, Ukraine would have "nothing left to discuss" with Russia.

From September 23 to 27, referendums were held in Luhansk and Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia on joining Russia. According to Russian media, the majority of voters in all four regions supported the annexation.
