During the talks, President Putin thanked the Chinese President for supporting Russia's term as Chairman of the BRICS group of emerging economies, and emphasized that the two countries have closely coordinated in other multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the Security Council, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Group of 20 (G20), and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), jointly supporting the building of a more equitable multipolar order, and working together to ensure indivisible security in the Eurasian space and the world.

The Russian President assessed 2024 as a year of fruitful cooperation between the two countries, with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, his visit to China in May and fruitful talks in July on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Astana (Kazakhstan). The Russian leader also expressed his pleasure at meeting the Chinese leader again in October at the BRICS Summit in Kazan (Russia).

China's CCTV also reported on January 21 about the video conference between the Chinese and Russian leaders.

CCTV did not disclose the topic of the discussion, but stressed that President Xi Jinping said that in the face of unprecedented rapid changes in a century and an unstable international situation, China and Russia have continuously moved forward together on the correct path of non-alignment, non-confrontation and not targeting a third party.
