On March 14, outgoing South Korean President Moon Jae-in called for national unity to address the challenges the country faces after the recent presidential election.

Speaking at a meeting with senior aides, President Moon Jae-in stressed that the most urgent task now is to heal the divisions that arose during and after the election.

Mr. Moon Jae-in affirmed that he will cooperate with President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol so that the new Korean government can start work without interruption.

Mr. Moon also pledged to continue making maximum efforts to maintain stability on the Korean peninsula until his term ends next May.

In the 20th presidential election in South Korea on March 9, candidate Yoon Suk-yeol of the main opposition People's Power Party (PPP) won with 48.6% of the vote compared to 47.8% for candidate Lee Jae-myung of the ruling Democratic Party (DP).

Mr. Yoon's victory was extremely close, with the difference between the two candidates being only 0.8%, equivalent to 250,000 votes.

President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol is currently working to speed up the establishment of a government transition committee.

It is expected that President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol will directly announce the decision to appoint key personnel of the transition committee and complete the appointment of committee personnel as early as March 17.

The transitional committee is expected to be officially launched on March 21.
