The project "Thanh Lieu Woodblocks - Journey to revive a craft village" was jointly organized by artisans of Thanh Lieu village (Tan Hung ward, Hai Duong city) in Hanoi in June with many rich and diverse activities.

On the afternoon of June 8, a workshop on “Woodblock engraving and printing techniques” took place in Hanoi. This event is part of the project “Thanh Lieu Woodblocks – Journey to revive a craft village” organized by artisans from Thanh Lieu village (Tan Hung ward, Hai Duong city) in collaboration with Bach Nghe ward (Center for Research, Development and Application of Vietnamese Craft Village Products).
The event attracted a large number of people, mainly young people, including foreigners interested in and loving the art of woodblock carving.
At the workshop, people were shared about woodblock carving and printing techniques by 5 artisans of Thanh Lieu village; and directly practiced woodblock carving and printing.
The project "Thanh Lieu Woodblocks - Journey to revive a craft village" takes place until the end of June in Bach Nghe Ward (HY 01-5, Hoang Thanh Villas, Mo Lao Ward, Ha Dong District, Hanoi) with many rich and diverse activities such as: a special topic on fine arts in woodblocks, a discussion on fine arts in woodblock prints, and a workshop on printing publications from woodblocks; a special topic on the application of woodblocks in the past and present, presenting the application of woodblocks in history and modernity; an application workshop and discussion on the application of woodblocks... At the same time, within the framework of the project, artisans of Thanh Lieu village have the opportunity to share with the people the process and passion for preserving the ancient printing and engraving profession...
The project is not only an effort to preserve the heritage of young people who are passionate about woodblock engraving and printing, but also creates opportunities for development and innovation for Thanh Lieu craft village.
The woodblock engraving and printing profession was learned by Mr. Luong Nhu Hoc, a native of Hong Luc village, Truong Tan district, Ha Hong prefecture (now Thanh Lieu area, Tan Hung ward, Hai Duong city) who passed the exam with the highest score in the Nham Tuat examination in the 3rd year of Dai Bao (1442) under the reign of Le Thai Tong after two diplomatic missions to China and then brought back to spread to the people of Lieu Trang and Thanh Lieu villages. Since then, the engraving and printing profession here became famous, undertaking the engraving and printing of the country's massive books. In the 18th year of Chinh Hoa (1697), the woodblock engraving and printing craftsmen of Lieu Trang and Thanh Lieu obeyed the court's order to engrave and print the Complete Annals of Dai Viet - the most important historical book of the nation.
