The assessment of capacity for entering grade 6 of key secondary schools with the addition of English is a notable new point in the enrollment plan for grade 6 of secondary schools in the 2025-2026 school year in Hai Duong city that has just been issued.
Accordingly, candidates applying for admission to key secondary schools in Hai Duong city must go through 2 rounds of admission.
Round 1, admission is based on students' academic results. Candidates must fall into one of two categories: students with "good" or higher educational results in the school years and "excellent" in grade 5; students with "good" or higher educational results in the school years and have an international English certificate within the prescribed time limit. Last year, one of the admission requirements was only to have an international English certificate within the prescribed time limit.
Round 2, the selection is organized through a competency assessment. The test lasts 75 minutes, and includes math, Vietnamese (objective multiple choice test combined with essay) and English (objective multiple choice test).
Thus, the new point in the competency assessment compared to last year is that in addition to Math and Vietnamese, there is an additional English subject; the test time has increased from 60 minutes to 75 minutes. Another new point is that students who have an international English certificate within the prescribed time limit will be considered to replace the English content in the competency assessment. Last year, the international English certificate was only used when candidates had the same score in the competency assessment and was used in the admission conditions.
The specific calculation of international English certificate scores is as follows: Cambridge certificate - Movers (14 - 15 shields), Flyers (10 - 11 shields), KET (120 - 132 points) equals 15 points, Flyers (12 - 15 shields), KET (133 - 150 points) equals 20 points; TOEFL Primary certificate level A1 - 2 badges (or 4 stars) equals 15 points, level A2 - 3 badges equals 20 points.
The assessment scale is 100 points, including 40 points for math, 40 points for Vietnamese, and 20 points for English. Thus, the scores for math and Vietnamese will also be reduced to make room for English.
Admission scores are from high to low. In case candidates have the same score, the following additional criteria will be considered, including: students who have achieved results in participating in competitions and exchanges organized by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Department of Education and Training; have an international English certificate within the prescribed time limit; 5th grade learning results for math, Vietnamese and English: based on the total score of the final exam of the school year for math, Vietnamese and English, prioritized in order of 3 points of 10, 2 points of 10, 1 point of 10...
Thus, the new point in the admission principle when there are candidates with the same score is to add the following criteria: students have achieved results in participating in competitions and exchanges organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Department of Education and Training and 5th grade learning results in math, Vietnamese, English...
Another new point is the increase in enrollment quota. Specifically, Le Quy Don Secondary School plans to enroll 240 students, an increase of 40 students compared to last year. The remaining two secondary schools, Binh Minh and Vo Thi Sau, each enroll 120 students, the same as last year.
From June 1 to 3, students submit their application documents to 3 key secondary schools. On June 8, the capacity assessment test is organized at Ngoc Chau Primary School and Secondary School. On June 13, the results of the capacity assessment are announced. On June 20, the admission results are announced.
Also according to the enrollment plan for grade 6 of junior high school in the 2025-2026 school year in Hai Duong city, other public junior high schools based on enrollment quotas and locations as decided by the People's Committee of Hai Duong city will organize one-time enrollment by selection method.
