The 15m high Shennong Tower, divided into 5 floors, is made up of 1012 stone mortars arranged on the outside, with a solid concrete frame inside, and has just received an Asian Record Certificate.
On the evening of November 30, in Lam Thao commune, Luong Tai district, Bac Ninh province, the ceremony to announce and award the Asian record certificate for the artwork Thap Than Nong took place.
The Shennong Tower is designed in the shape of a grain of rice, built vertically, both creating a landscape and serving as an experiential cultural education model. Inside the Shennong Tower, there are stairs going up and down, designed in the shape of a grain of rice standing vertically.
Author Tran Van Toan spent a lot of time and effort collecting stone mortars to make this. Sharing the reason for this strange collection, Mr. Toan said that as agricultural production becomes more and more modern, in many rural areas, stone mortars, stone shafts, rice mills, etc. are left on the roadside or in the bushes.
“I spend time and effort to collect stone mortars and build an exhibition area, thereby wanting to preserve and conserve the culture of the countryside, of agricultural culture, and preserve the memories of a generation and a cultural and historical period of the Northern countryside,” said Mr. Toan.
Mr. Toan hopes that the exhibition area will be a place for the younger generation to experience and learn about the objects associated with the lives of previous generations. Previously, this work of art was awarded a Vietnam Record Certificate by the Vietnam Record Organization.
