From now until the end of September, there may be 1-2 more storms in the East Sea.

Storms concentrated in the last 10 days of September

Commenting on the natural disaster situation in the coming time, Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said: "From now until the end of September, there is a possibility of 1-2 storms appearing in the East Sea, possibly concentrated in the last 10 days of September and possibly affecting the Northern and North Central regions. There is a high risk of heavy rain and floods in the Central region during the flood season in October-November 2024", Mr. Mai Van Khiem shared.

Flood, inundation, landslide situation

According to the Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, flood water levels in the lower reaches of the Red River are currently decreasing but remain high, and flooding in low-lying areas along the river will gradually decrease in the coming days.

In particular, the water receding time in low-lying areas along the Bui River in Chuong My district is from 8-10 days, along the Tich River about 5-7 days, downstream of the Ca Lo River 2-4 days, and the Nhue River from 2-3 days.

In the areas outside the dike downstream of the Red River - Thai Binh River (provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hai Duong), the water withdrawal time lasts from 3-5 days. For areas that do not actively drain, it may take longer.

In the coming days, when floodwaters recede on river systems, there is a risk of riverbank erosion, especially in places where high flood peaks have just appeared.

Although the rain has now decreased and there is no rain in many places, the risk of landslides remains high, especially on steep slopes in the northern mountainous areas, especially Lao Cai, Yen Bai, and Cao Bang.
