Thailand offers 30-day visa exemption to visitors from about 60 countries and territories

April 5, 2023 14:27

Since April 1, Thailand has ended its visa relaxation policy and only allows visitors from about 60 countries and territories to stay in Thailand for 30 days without a visa in advance, instead of 45 days as before.

Tourists from countries in the European Union, the UK, the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia and many other countries and territories, including Vietnam, will only be allowed to stay in Thailand for 30 days without applying for a visa in advance.

However, the Tourism Authority of Thailand said that visitors with a 30-day visa exemption will be able to apply for a one-time 30-day extension of their stay at immigration counters.

In addition, visitors will also be legally granted an additional 30 days extension by exiting Thailand by land and re-entering immediately. Visitors will only be allowed to extend their visa in this way a maximum of 2 times per year.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand said that although there is no official regulation on entering and exiting Thailand multiple times a year via air, immigration officers have the right to refuse entry to visitors and force them to apply for an official visa from Thai diplomatic missions in their home countries.

Regarding the visa-on-arrival policy at the border, Thailand also restored the policy of only allowing a stay of 15 days, instead of 30 days.

Previously, from October 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, Thailand implemented a visa relaxation policy to stimulate tourism in the post-Covid-19 period. Accordingly, Thailand allows visitors from about 60 countries and territories who are currently granted a 30-day visa-free stay to be increased to 45 days; visitors from 18 countries and territories coming to Thailand under the visa-on-arrival program will have their stay doubled to 30 days.
