The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) shared on social network X (formerly Twitter): “The image was captured by the camera on the lander after landing. The image shows a part of the Chandrayaan-3 landing pad and a leg and shadow of the device. Chandrayaan-3 chose to land on a relatively flat area on the lunar surface.”

Earlier, ISRO said that the communication system between the Vikram lander and the state-of-the-art Mission Control Facility (MOX) in Karnataka's capital Bengaluru has been established. The Vikram lander also shared images of the Moon taken during the landing.

India has created history after becoming the first country to land on the South Pole of the Moon. The rover “Pragyaan” has been deployed at the South Pole and will be used by ISRO scientists to conduct experiments over the next 14 days to explore the composition of the Moon’s soil and rocks. The South Pole is believed to have ice and mineral deposits.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission launched on July 14 and took 41 days to land on the lunar surface. After entering lunar orbit, the Vikram lander performed 13 manoeuvres, including two deceleration manoeuvres. The lander separated from the Propulsion Module on August 17.
