Medical examination and treatment, free medicine for meritorious people and the elderly are regular activities organized by the Youth Union and Association at all levels.

Journey for community health

Despite being busy with their professional work, young doctors still take time to participate in programs to examine and give free medicine to the poor, families with meritorious services to the revolution and those who have contributed to the revolution. The image of doctors in white coats, enthusiastically guiding each person to check their health, measure blood pressure, and examine their eyes, ears, nose and throat has become familiar in each voluntary medical examination.

After the historic typhoon Yagi, many areas in Hai Tan ward were deeply submerged in water. With the spirit of shock, Hai Duong Youth Union coordinated with doctors and nurses from the Provincial Young Doctors Club to wade through water to visit each family, check for some skin and digestive diseases and instruct people on how to prevent epidemics after the storm.

The Provincial Young Doctors Club is a place to connect young doctors from many hospitals and medical centers in the province, chaired by Master, Specialist II Doctor Nguyen Hoang Thai, Head of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Hai Duong General Hospital. Mr. Thai said that in addition to examining patients in Hai Duong, every year the club also coordinates with the Provincial Youth Union to visit disadvantaged provinces in the highlands to examine, provide health consultation, and mobilize social resources to distribute an average of 300 free medicines.

Not only stopping at volunteer programs, the team of young doctors and nurses in Hai Duong also conducts screenings for students to detect early school diseases such as myopia, scoliosis, congenital heart disease. For the elderly, they use modern medical equipment to check cardiovascular and blood sugar levels, and advise on appropriate health care.

The Youth Union of Hai Duong Rehabilitation Hospital is one of the typical units that regularly accompany the Youth Union and Association in voluntary medical examination and treatment activities. On average, once a month, young doctors and nurses participate in a voluntary medical examination session on the weekend.

The Youth Union of Hai Duong Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital is a typical unit in voluntary medical examination activities.

Graduated in 2015, Mr. Nguyen Huy worked at the Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital. Since then, in addition to his professional duties as a doctor, he has also been involved in the Youth Union, serving as Secretary of the Youth Union of the Department of Physical Therapy.

Since he was a student, he has participated in many practical programs, volunteering to examine patients in poor communes in border and mountainous provinces. He told about areas without electricity, lacking in material resources, where children got sick but were not treated promptly. Those trips helped him understand more about the responsibility of doctors to the community. "From health check-ups and screenings like this, diseases can be detected, the most appropriate advice can be given to patients to have the most effective treatment instructions," Dr. Huy shared.

The story of a child in Nam Sach district who suffered from developmental delays due to lack of early intervention is an example. During a volunteer medical examination here, Mr. Huy and his colleagues screened and discovered the child's illness. Thanks to the dedicated guidance of the doctors and nurses, the family took the child to the hospital for timely treatment and his health improved.

Hearts devoted to the profession

The medical profession is inherently difficult and for female doctors and nurses, the pressure is even greater. Ms. Do Thi Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of Hai Duong Traditional Medicine Hospital, said that during the months of gratitude to those who have contributed, every weekend she and her colleagues participate in voluntary medical examinations. Her task is to guide the members in medical examinations and treatment, and direct patients to each examination table.

Many times she had to send her two children to their grandparents and arrange household chores to complete her duties well. "Each volunteer program is a memorable experience. It is the smiles of the patients that motivate me to continue to stick with the profession and volunteer activities," Ms. Phuong shared.

Until now, she still cannot forget the image of her colleagues carrying ultrasound machines and mini electrocardiogram machines to the house of a heroic Vietnamese mother and a meritorious person in Hai Duong city during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Having been examined and given gifts in the program "For a healthy Vietnam" at the end of 2024, Ms. Do Thi Be could not hide her emotions. "Currently, families in difficult circumstances like ours receive a lot of attention from organizations, especially regular free health check-ups every year. This year, I was very excited to have been examined for free by a young doctor from the province and given gifts," said Ms. Be.

Youth Union members of the provincial health sector are also the core in volunteer activities to care for community health.

Sharing about the contributions of the young medical team, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Youth Union, said that not only do they perform their professional duties well, the youth union members of the provincial health sector are also the core in volunteer activities for social security and community health care. With a pioneering spirit, the young doctors have made many meaningful contributions, affirming the prestige of the Youth Union and spreading the spirit of living beautifully for the community.
