Detained criminal suspect who heartlessly used gasoline to burn his biological mother

On February 25, information from Tra Vinh Provincial Police, the Investigation Police Agency (Provincial Police) is temporarily detaining suspect Duong Quoc Trung (born in 2004, residing in Hamlet 4, Ward 7, Tra Vinh City) to investigate and clarify the act of murder.

Previously, at around 5:30 p.m. on February 24, Ward 5 Police, Tra Vinh City received a report from local residents that Duong Quoc Trung poured gasoline on his biological mother, Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Lan (born in 1980, residing in Hamlet 1, Ward 7) and set her on fire.

Discovering the incident, Nguyen Duy Khang (born in 2002, residing in Ngai Hiep hamlet, Hung My commune, Chau Thanh district) and Bui Le Quoc Tai (born in 1999, residing in Hue Sanh hamlet, Long Duc commune, Tra Vinh city) living nearby quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher and rushed out to put out the fire.

While trying to put out the fire and rescue the victim, these people were chased and obstructed by Trung. Afterwards, the people were able to control Trung and take the victim to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Immediately after receiving the report, Ward 5 Police in coordination with Tra Vinh City Police and the Criminal Police Department (Provincial Police) quickly arrived at the scene to investigate, verify, and escort Trung to the police station for questioning. Through a quick drug test, the subject tested negative.

After the incident, victim Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Lan suffered severe burns and was given emergency treatment at Tra Vinh General Hospital and transferred to Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.

According to the initial investigation and verification of the Criminal Police Department (Tra Vinh Provincial Police), Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong Lan works as a lottery ticket seller and is renting a room in Hamlet 1, Ward 5, Tra Vinh City.

Subject Duong Quoc Trung went to work outside the province and has been living with his family since January 2025 until now.

Recently, Trung has shown signs of severe depression and often quarrels with his biological mother.

The case is being further investigated, verified and handled by the Investigation Police Agency (Tra Vinh Provincial Police) according to the provisions of law.
