To reduce traffic congestion during the April 30 holiday, cars and trucks will not be allowed to board the ferry to Cat Ba Island from 9am to 1pm every day.

The above regulation is applied by the City People's Committee from April 26 to May 4, coinciding with the peak tourist season during the April 30 - May 1 holiday and will be maintained on weekends from May 10 to July 30. To travel from Cat Hai to Cat Ba during the ban, visitors can choose high-speed trains, cable cars or Tuan Chau ferries in Quang Ninh.

Previously, on April 18, Sun Group Corporation tested the public electric car system to pick up tourists from Phu Long cable car station to the center of Cat Ba island. This system includes 10 45-seat electric cars and will serve customers free of charge from now until May 15. From May 16, the system is expected to expand to 20 cars of each type, with a frequency of 150 trips/day, to meet peak demand. The electric car ticket price after the free period is expected to be 50,000 VND/person/trip.

Thus, if traveling from Cat Hai island to Cat Ba island, tourists will only spend 50,000 VND/trip if taking the cable car.

Two new high-speed ferry routes were also launched by the city: the Cat Hai - Cat Ba route (25 minutes) which began operating on April 18, taking passengers from Cat Hai marina (next to Dong Bai ferry terminal) to Cat Ba marina (Dong Ho Bay) and the Ha Long - Cat Ba route (50 minutes) which began operating on May 17, departing from Ha Long port to Cat Ba marina (Dong Ho Bay).

In the first two months of this year, Cat Ba welcomed more than 280,000 visitors. However, the transport infrastructure has not kept up with the growth rate, especially the congestion at Dong Bai ferry terminal. There were times when the queue of passengers waiting for the ferry stretched for several kilometers, for many hours, causing inconvenience to both tourists and locals. Meanwhile, on Cat Ba Island, the sudden increase in private vehicles and passenger buses is reducing the quality of the experience and putting pressure on the environment.

During the April 30 - May 1 holiday last year, Dong Bai - Cai Vieng ferry terminal recorded 16,664 vehicles, expected to double this year.
