Dong Bai ferry terminal, Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city is expected to be operational from March 1, replacing Got ferry terminal in transporting people and tourists to Cat Ba island.
On February 26, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee, and the city's working delegation inspected the field and listened to a report on the preparation of conditions to put Dong Bai ferry terminal, Cat Hai district into operation from March 1.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Deputy Director of Hai Phong Department of Transport said that up to now, Cat Ba Sun Company Limited (investor of Dong Bai ferry terminal) has coordinated with Hai Phong Economic Zone Management Board to basically complete the construction items to put into operation.
As for Hai Phong Waterway Traffic Assurance Joint Stock Company, this unit has also completed the test run at Dong Bai ferry terminal.
At the same time, we are coordinating with the ferry building unit to rent more ferries; rent waiting rooms, operating houses and auxiliary works to serve the upcoming operation of Dong Bai ferry terminal.
After listening to the report, Mr. Nguyen Duc Tho requested relevant sectors and units to urgently complete procedures and ensure conditions for Dong Bai ferry to officially come into operation from March 1.
Specifically, promptly complete all procedures for handing over shared technical infrastructure works, arranging waiting areas, operating houses and auxiliary works for the ferry service provider at Dong Bai ferry terminal to rent, ensuring operation according to regulations.
The Department of Transport shall review and organize the installation of a system of signs and directions to the ferry terminal and the route leading to the new Dong Bai ferry terminal; at the same time, preside over the Maritime Port Authority, Border Guard and Cat Ba Sun Company Limited to complete the infrastructure of the passenger wharf so that it can be put into operation on the occasion of April 30 and May 1 this year.
As planned, from 5am on March 1, the first ferry of Dong Bai ferry terminal will officially come into operation, replacing Got ferry terminal with the aim of reducing traffic congestion during peak times, creating convenience for people and tourists coming to Cat Ba island.
According to statistics, the number of passengers passing through Got - Cai Vieng ferry terminal is currently over 3,700 per day, the number of vehicles passing through the ferry is nearly 750. On weekends or holidays, the number of people and vehicles often increases from 1.5 to 2 times, causing the infrastructure at Got ferry terminal to not be able to meet the demand, leading to congestion and tourists having to wait for hours to get on the ferry.
