The new ferry is nearly 60m long, can accommodate 9 47-seat passenger cars and 40 2-wheeled motorbikes, and is in operation, transporting passengers to Cat Ba Island and vice versa.
A representative of Dong Bai Ferry Terminal (Cat Hai District, Hai Phong) said that the new ferry, 58m long, 15m wide, with a load capacity of nearly 200 tons, is officially in operation, carrying passengers to Cat Ba Island and vice versa.
The ferry with the registration number HP 6139 and the name Cat Ba 03, invested by Bayview Cat Ba Company Limited, made its first trip at 5:00 p.m. on July 31. After experiencing the new modern ferry, many tourists were very excited and expected that the scene of waiting for the ferry for 3-4 hours would no longer happen again.
Today, August 1, the ferry operates normally and continuously transports passengers from Dong Bai ferry to Cai Vieng ferry to Cat Ba island and vice versa.
The new ferry's running time is 20-25 minutes/trip, equivalent to the old ferry.
The ferry is fully equipped with safety equipment, AIS, VHF communications, life-saving equipment, fire prevention and fighting equipment, and a fire-fighting water pump system. The ferry also has a signal light system, flags, and equipment that is always in good working condition and ready for use.
The ferry has 3 floors. The first floor can accommodate 9 45-seat passenger cars and 40 motorbikes. The second floor is a waiting room equipped with air conditioning and about 200 waiting seats, with a sales counter serving people and tourists during the trip between the 2 ferry terminals. The third floor is the driver's cabin.
This is one of five modern ferries with a total investment of about 130 billion VND put into operation. Previously, at 6:00 p.m. on June 27, the ferry with the registration number HP 6139 named Cat Ba 03 moved from the ferry factory, entered the channel, docked at Dong Bai ferry terminal (Cat Hai district, Hai Phong), and continued to complete related procedures before handing over and putting into operation. After that, the ferry moved to anchor at Got ferry terminal.
