British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty continue to be on the list of Britain's richest people, with their assets increasing by more than £120 million ($152 million) this year.
In London, the list of the richest people in Britain published by the Sunday Times newspaper said that the assets of Mr. Sunak and Ms. Murty increased from 529 million pounds in 2023 to about 651 million pounds in 2024.
The increase in the couple's fortune is linked to Mrs Murty's stake in Infosys, the $70bn (£55.3bn) Indian IT giant co-founded by her billionaire father. Over the past year, the value of Mrs Murty's Infosys shares has increased by £108.8m to nearly £590m.
However, according to figures from the Sunday Times, the assets of the British Prime Minister and his wife are still lower than the figure of about 730 million pounds in 2022.
According to British media, Mr. Sunak and Ms. Murty currently have an apartment in Santa Monica, California, USA. Previously, for about 10 years, when he was a young man, Mr. Sunak lived on the West Coast of the US and met Ms. Murty at Stanford Business School.
At that time, Mr. Sunak showed interest in technology, artificial intelligence and intended to find a job in Silicon Valley, but then everything changed and he pursued a political career until today.
In the list of the richest people in Britain published by the Sunday Times, King Charles III's assets increased from 600 million pounds to 610 million pounds.
The number of billionaires in the UK has fallen for two consecutive years. The number peaked at 177 in 2022, before falling to 171 in 2023 and 165 this year, as some individuals' personal wealth was squeezed by high interest rates and others left the UK.
