Leaving their hometown to work in Hai Duong, this Tet holiday, whether they return or stay, workers far from home receive practical care and sharing from the trade union and the enterprise.
Travel assistance
Tinh Loi Garment Company Limited is currently the enterprise with the largest number of employees in Hai Duong province, most of whom come from other provinces to work. To share with workers living far away, in addition to gifts from the company and the union, workers living far away are also supported with transportation costs. The company divides the costs into different levels based on the permanent address of the workers.
To ensure fairness, the company specifically divided the provinces and cities depending on the distance from Hai Duong to build a support scale. Accordingly, the lowest level is 120,000 VND/person, the highest level is 500,000 VND/person (including workers in the provinces of Ha Giang, Son La, Cao Bang, Lai Chau, Dien Bien and provinces from Ha Tinh to the South).
“During Tet, I had to go back to my hometown and had to spend a lot of money, so I was very happy to receive support from the company. This is also one of the reasons that kept me working in Hai Duong for the past few years,” said Ms. Lu Thi Sin from Lai Chau province.
Not only do businesses care for their workers, but in recent times, Trieu Pho Company Limited (Thanh Mien) operating in the transportation sector has also actively supported workers in remote areas. For many years, every Tet holiday, the company has organized a free bus to take workers from far away to their hometowns to celebrate Tet. This year, the company supported the return of workers from Ha Giang of Continuance Vietnam Shoes Company Limited (Cam Giang). The Trade Union of Continuance Vietnam Shoes Company Limited has made a list of registered workers to notify the departure time of the bus.
“We are a transportation company, so we are very busy at the end of the year. However, facing the difficulties of workers far from home, the company wants to share some of the burden,” said Mr. Trieu Duy Luu, Director of Trieu Pho Company Limited.
For a long time, supporting workers who come to Hai Duong to work and return home for Tet has become a cultural beauty in Hai Duong. According to the Provincial Labor Federation, many businesses, especially those in industrial parks - where many workers come to work far from home - organize buses to take workers home or support bus fares.
On the occasion of this Lunar New Year, in the program “Tet Sum Vay - Xuan Ung Dang”, the Provincial Labor Federation donated money for travel back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet to 500 union members and workers far from home (support level of 500,000 VND/person). In addition, grassroots unions also actively mobilized businesses to join hands to support workers living far away.
Take good care of those who stay behind
Due to work conditions, there are still workers from far away provinces who have to stay in Hai Duong to celebrate Tet. Not only do they receive a satisfactory salary for working during Tet, but they are also taken care of very attentively.
These days before Tet, Mr. Manh Ninh, a worker at Hung Huy Livestock Equipment Joint Stock Company in Dinh Son Commune (Cam Giang) is still diligently working. This is the second year Mr. Ninh celebrates Tet at the company with his colleagues.
Mr. Ninh is from Moc Chau town (Son La). Due to the nature of his job, he decided not to return home for Tet but to stay. A few months before Tet, Mr. Ninh returned home to visit his family and children.
Mr. Ninh said: "It's a pity that I can't celebrate New Year's Eve with my wife and children. But due to the nature of my job, I have to stay at the company. Even though I'm far from home and family, in addition to the extra income during Tet, I also get to attend the year-end dinner with many colleagues in the company. This helps me ease my homesickness," Mr. Ninh said.
Mr. Nguyen Dac Viem, Director of Hung Huy Livestock Equipment Joint Stock Company, said that due to the nature of the work requiring strict disease prevention, employees in the company have little contact with the outside environment. Employees in the company are mainly from the northern mountainous provinces.
"To help workers feel secure in their work and celebrate Tet at the farm, the company has many policies to encourage workers. During the 5 days of Tet, their income increases 4 times compared to normal days. In addition, we organize Chung cake wrapping, year-end meals and Tet lucky money to encourage workers to work. The income level is attractive, so most workers far from home choose to stay and celebrate Tet with the company."
This Tet, Giang Thi Dinh and her husband in Bac Kan province also stayed in Hai Duong to celebrate Tet. In early 2024, Dinh and her husband went to Hai Duong to work for a restaurant. During Tet, the number of customers increased, so the restaurant served throughout Tet. To meet the demand, the restaurant owner invited Dinh and her husband to stay and work with an attractive income, so the two decided to stay.
"We also want to go home to celebrate Tet with our children, but our family's finances are difficult. Traveling during Tet is also expensive, not to mention many other expenses, so my husband and I chose to stay. If we don't go home to celebrate Tet, the restaurant owner will give us a large bonus along with gifts to send to our children. After Tet, we will go home to make it up to our children," Ms. Dinh shared.
According to statistics from the authorities, Hai Duong currently has about 60,000 workers from other provinces coming to work. The practical and timely sharing, especially during the coming Tet holiday, will certainly help them feel more attached to the land of the East.
