The National Assembly conducts the personnel process for the President on the first day of its meeting.

On the afternoon of October 20, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Khac Dinh chaired a press conference on the expected agenda of the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly.

Responding to press questions regarding personnel work, Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee Nguyen Thanh Hai said that at the preparatory meeting tomorrow morning, October 21, the National Assembly will review the contents expected to be submitted to the session, consider and approve the official agenda of the session, including personnel work.

According to the scheduled agenda of the session submitted to the National Assembly for approval, on the first day of the session, the National Assembly will conduct the personnel process for the position of President in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and laws.

“We follow the principle of the Party nominating and the people electing. At the recent 10th Central Conference, the Central Committee unanimously voted to introduce qualified personnel to the National Assembly to elect to hold the position of President for the 2021-2026 term,” said Ms. Hai.

Regarding other personnel under the authority of the National Assembly, the Head of the Delegation Affairs Committee emphasized that this will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of law. The meeting agenda has arranged time to carry out the procedure for personnel under the authority of the National Assembly.

Regarding the content of the session, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Office Vu Minh Tuan said that the 8th Session will hold a preparatory session and solemnly open tomorrow morning, October 21, and is expected to close on the morning of November 30.

The total working time of the session is expected to be 29.5 days, conducted in 2 phases (phase 1 from October 21 to November 13; phase 2 from November 20 to the morning of November 30), in which the National Assembly will work 4 Saturdays.

At this session, the National Assembly will spend most of its time on law-making, supreme supervision, consideration and decision on socio-economic issues and a number of other important issues.

According to Mr. Tuan, at this session, General Secretary and President To Lam will give an important speech at the opening session.

Regarding the agenda of the 8th Session, Mr. Tuan said that the National Assembly will consider and pass 15 laws and 3 resolutions; give initial opinions on 13 other draft laws. Along with that, it will evaluate the results of the implementation of the socio-economic development plan and the State budget for 2024 and consider and decide on the plan for 2025.

Reports on judicial work, anti-corruption, crime prevention and law violations, results of monitoring the settlement of voters' petitions, citizen reception, handling of petitions and complaints and denunciations of citizens will also be commented on by the National Assembly.

Notably, the National Assembly will consider personnel work under its authority; consider and decide on the establishment of Hue City directly under the Central Government; and consider and decide on the investment policy for the North-South high-speed railway project.

Another important content, the National Assembly conducts questions and answers; considers the report of the Supervisory Delegation and considers and approves the Resolution of the National Assembly on the results of the thematic supervision "Implementation of policies and laws on real estate market management and social housing development from 2015 to the end of 2023".
