"Inside the Golden Cocoon" by director Pham Thien An will be screened in the New Voices category and will stand out thanks to the prestigious Cannes Camera d'Or award.
Vietnamese movies"Inside the golden cocoon"is the only Vietnamese representative participating in the 61st New York International Film Festival. This year, the program lasts from September 29 to October 15, continuing to attract the participation of works with strong author and artistic qualities from different cinemas around the world. The New York Film Festival does not organize competitions, only screenings.
Information from the film festival's official website said"Inside the golden cocoon"(Inside the Yellow Cocoon Shell) will be screened in the “Currents” section, which seeks to highlight new and innovative cinematic forms and voices. Along with the “Main slate,” these are considered the categories that best define the festival’s purpose.
Also showing with the Vietnamese representative in this category are young or new directors. Among them“Inside the Golden Cocoon”stands out with its winning achievement at the Cannes Film Festival, the Golden Camera award (Camera d'Or).
With an artistic flair and many metaphors, the film is quite picky about its audience and only achieved a modest 1.3 billion VND when it was released in Vietnamese theaters in August this year. Pham Thien An's debut film received many compliments, mixed with comments like it was difficult to watch and difficult to feel. However, from international experts,"Inside the golden cocoon"received mostly critical acclaim, especially from academics in France where the Cannes Film Festival took place.
Besides the above Vietnamese films, the film festival also has films“The Pot au Feu”(no Vietnamese title yet) directed by French-Vietnamese director Tran Anh Hung. The film will be shown in the “Spotlight” category.(Spotlight). This is the most highly rated and outstanding film screening category of the year.
At the recent 2023 Cannes Film Festival,"The Pot au Feu"won the award for best director.
The New York Film Festival was founded in 1963, has existed for 60 years and is one of the oldest international film festivals in the US.
Each work selected for screening in the “Main slate” (the most important category) will reflect the whole perspective of art cinema in the world, including films by big names, new discoveries, films by producers familiar with similar film festivals.
