These 22 caves have a total length of 11.7 km; of which 20 caves were discovered in Lam Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district) and Hoa Phuc commune, Hoa Son commune (Minh Hoa district); 2 caves in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
This survey and exploration trip by scientists from England, Australia, and New Zealand lasted 3 weeks, divided into 3 phases in Minh Hoa and Tuyen Hoa districts with the support of some tour guides in Phong Nha and local people.
Mr. Howard Limbert, BCRA cave exploration team leader, said that these caves are mostly wet caves, small but quite interesting, especially compared to many caves that the team has found in Quang Binh. While Son Doong, Hang En and many other caves only have one main entrance, this new cave system has many different entrances. Some caves are even connected, creating many horizontal passages, making the trips around inside very interesting.
To exploit the new caves for tourism, explorers, scientists and authorities in Quang Binh will conduct safety, flow, geomorphology and geology tests for these newly discovered caves.
