The Central Committee agreed to let Mr. Duong Van An, former Secretary of Vinh Phuc and Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committees, cease to hold the position of member of the 13th Central Committee.
The decision of the Central Executive Committee was made at a conference on the afternoon of January 23, according to a statement from the Party Central Office.
13 days ago, Mr. An was warned by the Politburo because during his tenure as Secretary of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee (from October 2020 to March 2024), he violated Party regulations and State laws in performing his assigned duties and tasks. The violations occurred in the prevention and fight against corruption, waste, and negativity; violated what Party members are not allowed to do and the responsibility to set an example.
The above violations "caused serious consequences, great losses to the state budget, negative public opinion, and reduced the prestige of the Party organization and local government." He was disciplined after only 9 months in office as Secretary of the Vinh Phuc Provincial Party Committee.
The National Assembly Standing Committee then voted by secret ballot to pass a resolution to remove him from his duties as a National Assembly deputy.
Mr. Duong Van An, 53 years old, from Hue City. He has a PhD in economics, a master's degree in political economy, and a bachelor's degree in geography.
He used to be Secretary of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Youth Union, Head of the Central Youth Union's Organizing Committee, Secretary of the Central Youth Union's Executive Committee and Permanent Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Vietnamese Youth. In 2014, he was transferred to be Deputy Secretary of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee and held this position for 6 years.
From October 2020, Mr. An was Secretary of Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, and in March 2024 was transferred to be Secretary of Vinh Phuc Provincial Party Committee.
