On the afternoon of July 27 (Vietnam time), China surpassed South Korea to win the first gold medal at the Paris Olympics, in the 10m rifle mixed doubles event.
Two athletes Sheng Lihao and Huang Yutin (China) excellently defeated Keum Jihyeon and Park Hajun (Korea) with a score of 16-12 after 14 shots in a very dramatic final match.
China also won gold medals in this event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, thanks to Yang Qian and Yang Haoran. Although both shooters will not participate in Paris 2024, the new lineup with Huang Yuting, 17, and Sheng Lihao, 19, is highly regarded.
Huang and Sheng are world champions, having beaten Iran 16-2 at Baku 2023. Huang has beaten world champion Han Jiayu in national competitions and won the Munich World Cup. Sheng, who won silver in Tokyo as a 16-year-old, has just had a stellar season, winning the World Cup and setting a new world record of 254.5 points in Munich.
