Noi Bai enters top 100, Changi loses position as world's number 1 airport

The list of the best airports in the world in 2024 was compiled by UK-based airport and airline rating and review website Skytrax.

To come up with the results, Skytrax annually surveys travelers from around the world.

Many Asian airports in the top

Although European airports still dominate, this year's ranking sees the presence of Asian airports, taking seven spots out of the top 20 airports published by Skytrax.

Japan shines with several airports making the list this year. Both Tokyo airports, Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT), made the top 10, with Haneda one spot ahead of its sister airport, in fourth place.

In addition, Japan also has the new Chitose Airport in Sapporo (CTS) winning the award for the world's most improved airport.

Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya (NGO) was named the best airport in the 5-10 million passengers per year category.

Kansai International Airport (KIX), serving the Osaka area, won the award for the world's best airport baggage handling service.

Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi has made an impressive rise, from 127th in 2023 to 96th in 2024.

This result not only helped Noi Bai airport enter the top 100 best airports in the world, but also surpassed airports in the US, China, and Germany, respectively in positions 97 to 100.

The Skytrax rankings were announced at the World Airport Awards in Frankfurt, Germany on April 17. Data for the list was collected from August 2023 to March 2024 from people of more than 100 nationalities.

In total, 570 airports were evaluated around the world. Survey respondents answered questions on a variety of topics, from ease of passing through security checkpoints to the quality and variety of food and drink.

Singapore and Qatar compete for the top spot

Over the past decade, Changi International Airport (Singapore) and Doha Hamad International Airport (Qatar) have been continuously competing for the title of the world's best airport.

This year, Doha Hamad Airport takes the top spot thanks to its ultra-modern design, high-end shopping, and above all, terminals that are easy to navigate and locate, not as confusing as some others.

Singapore held the top spot in 2023 and 2020, while Doha Hamad Airport (DOH) took the top spot in 2022 and 2021. This year, the two airports once again swapped first and second places.

“We look forward to continuing to surprise and delight our passengers by creating memorable and special journeys in the years to come,” he added.

DOH is among the airports that offer free city tours to passengers with long layovers, a service that has received high marks from respondents.

It is also home to the Oryx airport hotel, where guests can enjoy spa treatments, squash courts, and a 25m swimming pool.

In addition to ranking airports, Skytrax also awards outstanding airport hotels, with the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel holding the best position in Europe and the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport Hotel ranked among the best in the world, for the ninth year running.
