The world's most visited museum in Japan, Jurong Bird Park in Singapore, and Hong Kong's floating restaurant are attractive but unvisitable places in 2023.

Below are the destinations listed by CNN as attractive to tourists but cannot be visited in 2023 because they are no longer in operation. At the same time, the American newspaper also offers alternative options for tourists to refer to.

Jurong Bird Park, Singapore

Jurong Bird Park announced in August that it would close permanently after 52 years of operation. Accordingly, the last opening day of the bird park is January 3, 2023. It is currently home to nearly 3,500 species such as parrots, flamingos, and eagles.

The closure of the bird park is part of the Singapore Government's plan to create a new eco-tourism destination in the north of the country. The birds currently found in Jurong will be brought to the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and the luxury Banyan Tree resort.

Alternative: Singapore Botanic Gardens - a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jumbo Floating Restaurant, Hong Kong, China

Jumbo was once the world’s largest floating restaurant, measuring 76 meters long and three stories high. The restaurant is designed in the style of a Ming Dynasty palace and cost about $3.8 million to build. It specializes in seafood and Cantonese cuisine. Diners can choose from more than 60 types of fresh seafood, including lobster, crab and a variety of fish.

Two years of pandemic forced the restaurant to close due to lack of funds. After several unsuccessful attempts to sell to Hong Kong owners, Jumbo’s management took the restaurant to a shipyard in Southeast Asia. On the way, Jumbo sank in the South China Sea.

Alternative: Take a train to visit Victoria Peak - Hong Kong's iconic tourist destination.

Edo Museum Tokyo, Japan

The museum offers an overview of Japanese history, traditions, and culture during the Edo period. Located on the riverside in the Ryogoku neighborhood, the museum opened in 1993. It will be closed for at least three years for renovations, with a planned reopening in late 2025 or early 2026, museum officials said.

Another popular Tokyo museum, TeamLab Borderless, has also announced its closure to relocate. A reopening date has not been announced. It showcases digital art that creates a borderless world. TeamLab Borderless is recognized by Guinness World Records as the world's most visited museum, with nearly 2.2 million visitors in 2019.

Queen Mary, California, USA

After many years at sea, the Queen Mary was "retired" in 1967, and docked in Long Beach, California. The city then invested $5 million to renovate the ship, turning it into a restaurant and hotel. However, it will be dismantled next year, due to severe deterioration. Locals still hope that the ship will be converted into a museum or exhibition in the future. There are currently no plans to reopen the Queen Mary to visitors.
