This year, the epidemic has been controlled, gardeners expect increased purchasing power so they have been busy preparing flowers and ornamental plants to serve the people.

Gardeners are busy with the final stages to meet people's demand for flowers and ornamental plants during Tet.

With only half a month left until Lunar New Year, the atmosphere at gardens across the province is bustling with the final stages of serving people's need for flowers and ornamental plants for Tet.

Many varieties

This Tet, Du Men garden in Phu Lien village, Hong Phong commune (Nam Sach) will supply the market with about 5,000 chrysanthemum, peony and gerbera plants. For the flowers to bloom on time for Tet, the gardener has prepared seedlings for planting since the end of September. Flower care seems simple, but for the flowers to bloom on time for Tet and achieve quality, meticulousness is required in every step of care. Growers need to be sensitive and grasp the changes in the weather to fertilize the plants at the right time. For those who grow Tet flowers, "favorable rain and wind" are still the most important things. Mr. Tran Khanh Du, owner of Du Men garden, shared: "The weather this year is unusual, so growing Tet flowers is also more difficult. In addition to caring for the plants according to each stage of growth, it is necessary to adjust the light, watering and nutrition regimes according to the weather. Because it is more difficult, the price of flowers sold on Tet is often twice as high as on normal days."

The hustle and bustle is the general atmosphere of gardeners in Phu Lien flower village these days. The whole village has over 150 households with more than 25 hectares specializing in growing flowers and ornamental plants. Peach, chrysanthemum, gladiolus gardens... are meticulously cared for and pruned by the people to prepare for Tet. The profession of growing flowers and ornamental plants has brought a prosperous economic life to the people here.

Bach Thao Vien Garden in Thach Khoi Ward (Hai Duong City) has expanded its scale with 2 facilities to serve consumers. This Tet, the garden imported about 10,000 orchid branches to supply the market. In addition, there are also raspberry chrysanthemums, Korean chrysanthemums, Japanese chrysanthemums, camellias, poinsettias, primroses, etc. Since the beginning of December, the garden has received orders from about 30 units. The garden has hired 3 more seasonal workers to be able to meet the work. In the days leading up to Tet, the working atmosphere at this garden is busier. Work usually starts from early morning until late at night. Each person has a job. When receiving flowers and ornamental plants, workers will plant and decorate according to customers' requests, and at the same time cut branches and trim the flower pots to make them more beautiful. People advise and deliver to customers. Bach Thao Vien Garden will be open until the 30th of Tet to serve customers.

Gardeners have imported large quantities of flowers and ornamental plants to serve customers.

Purchasing power expectations

After several years of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, gardeners hope that this year's Tet purchasing power will increase compared to previous years. This year, the prices of many types of flowers and ornamental plants have increased by 5-10% due to the increased cost of hiring care workers and fertilizers compared to last year. Orchids range from 220,000-250,000 VND/branch, camellia from 500,000-900,000 VND/pot depending on size, and chrysanthemums from 150,000-180,000 VND/pot...

In recent years, people have also been interested in choosing flower pots such as terracotta pots and mother-of-pearl inlaid pots to suit the display space. Terracotta pots cost from 150,000-350,000 VND/pot, mother-of-pearl inlaid pots cost from 2-10 million VND/piece.

According to Ms. Vuong Thi Xoan at The Gioi Cay Xanh (Tan Binh Ward, Hai Duong City), before importing goods for Tet, gardeners have researched the tastes, trends, and hobbies of flowers and ornamental plants each year to meet the needs of consumers. In recent years, people have favored many types of orchids, camellias, and primroses. Although the number of customers coming to buy flowers and ornamental plants during Tet will increase compared to usual, gardeners must base on the purchasing power of consumers to make plans, make adjustments, and consider when importing goods to avoid a sluggish situation.
