This morning, a house on a busy street in Phu Nhuan district (Ho Chi Minh City) caught fire, smoke and flames billowed dozens of meters high, causing panic among many people.
At nearly 8 a.m. on January 5, smoke and fire broke out from a house on Thich Quang Duc Street, Ward 4. Many residents shouted to each other to put out the fire but were unsuccessful. A few minutes later, the fire flared up fiercely, engulfing the entire area, burning through the corrugated iron roof. Black smoke from the apartment obscured many shops and clinics on the 6th floor next door.
Living near the house that caught fire, Ms. Minh Thanh said that the house had 3 people living there, who often collected scrap to store in the house to resell. When the fire broke out, 2 people were going to the market, the elderly man suffered minor burns and was taken to the emergency room. "The fire spread very quickly, there was an explosion, so it scared many people," Ms. Thanh said.
Four fire trucks and more than 20 firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters used water hoses to climb up to surrounding houses to put out the fire, prevent it from spreading, and sprayed water to cool the walls of the clinic and neighboring houses to prevent damage.
The fire was brought under control after about 30 minutes. Many items in the house were burned.
