Poet Tran Dang Khoa revealed that he recently asked AI to write his own eulogy. The 800-word eulogy that AI wrote for Tran Dang Khoa left his friend 'deeply shocked'.
Poet Tran Dang Khoa said that he has known how to take advantage of technology and AI (artificial intelligence) to serve his work for a long time. And in recent years, when artificial intelligence has developed to new heights, it has helped people a lot in liberating labor and improving work efficiency. And people do not have to ignore this superiority and advancement.
"Recently, when I sat with journalist and poet Huu Viet, he bragged to me that he had ordered AI to create a picture for the cover of the Tet newspaper. And the AI created a very impressive picture. That Tet newspaper cover received an award at the 2024 Spring Newspaper Festival.
After that, I bragged to poet Huu Viet about the pho restaurant that I really liked on Bao Khanh street (Hanoi), next to Nhan Dan newspaper and asked poet Huu Viet to order AI to write an article about this pho restaurant. Surprisingly, less than 2 seconds later, I received a complete and impressive article about this pho restaurant.
I asked Mr. Huu Viet to install the software for me to use. This software allows free trial but I pay for 1 year to use it daily. As soon as the installation was completed, I ordered the AI to write an article about tea culture to give to tea artist Hoang Anh Suong. Hoang Anh Suong read this article and gave it 10 points and confessed that he himself could not write as excellently as the AI.
I continued to order AI to write a eulogy. That is because we are members of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association, so we often have to write eulogies for members. However, this "dish" of eulogies is really difficult because it requires a very deep understanding of the deceased to write it emotionally. But if I order AI to write a eulogy for someone and this story gets out, people will blame me for being such a cruel joke. So I ordered AI to write a eulogy for myself.
I suggested: "Old man Tran Dang Khoa just passed away yesterday, please write me an 800-word eulogy about Tran Dang Khoa". Within 2 seconds, AI gave me an extremely complete and impressive eulogy. The eulogy mentioned all my works, including works from a time that I can't even remember clearly.
I showed this eulogy to a friend of mine and she was both surprised and amazed. She said AI wrote it incredibly well.
After this eulogy, I also ordered AI to write a short story about Lang Nu village after the record flood. And surprisingly, AI wrote a short story about 100 pages long. AI was so smart that after finishing chapter I, it gave it to me to read and asked if I had any suggestions or to continue writing chapter II with it. I tried to copy a passage from the story written by AI to search to see if it "stole" someone else's story, but it didn't," poet Tran Dang Khoa shared.
According to poet Tran Dang Khoa, he had prepared for his death so this eulogy will not be used later.
"I have already made an arrangement about my death. That is, old Khoa is only Khoa when he is alive (i.e. breathing out and breathing in), when he is no longer breathing, he is not him. Therefore, he will not be responsible for the mess in the coffin. That is not him. Definitely not him. Therefore, you should not look at it. It is so disgusting. It is best to cremate him immediately and then put him in a clay pot and bury him under a star fruit tree. Because in the past, dogs and cats all died like that. Before putting him in the stove, read him a farewell poem like "Farewell", which has a few lines like this:
"Years of weariness
Come down to this country to play
Now we make smoke
Fly back to heaven".
I plan that when I "ascend to heaven", people who come to see me off will just play my favorite songs and invite everyone to drink beer. No need for a eulogy. My children will just say thank you. Of course, that's what I plan, but when I pass away, I don't know how people will organize for me," poet Tran Dang Khoa confided.
Poet Tran Dang Khoa worries that the development of AI has more or less threatened literary creators, especially writers. Because AI can write very well, much better than many normal writers, but cannot write poetry like poets.
However, this also raises the question of how writers in the 4.0 – 5.0 era will have to be creative, how to find topics, how to struggle with each page of writing to write works that AI cannot imitate, cannot reach. Only then can humans maintain the role of controlling and directing machines, otherwise they will be overwhelmed by artificial intelligence.
