More than 10,000 books
Located next to provincial road 392C, the community bookstore in Vinh Mo village, Le Hong commune is built on a large campus including a swimming pool and a year-round green garden system. This bookstore is designed in a hexagonal shape, 3 floors high, looking very majestic and eye-catching. The first floor is where the collection of old radios of up to hundreds of units with many types and famous brands in the world is displayed. The second floor is the library area with more than 10,000 books and magazines in various fields. The third floor is where the achievements and relics of the family of Mr. Vu Van Hien, former member of the Party Central Committee, former General Director of the Voice of Vietnam Radio Station are kept.
According to Mr. Bui Van Tien, Chairman of the People's Committee of Le Hong Commune, the community bookstore in Vinh Mo village was built by Mr. Vu Van Hien's family in 2020. The "heart" of the bookstore is the 2nd floor area with over 10,000 books. Here, books, newspapers, magazines, documents, comics... are arranged and sorted by field in a very scientific and reasonable way. This not only helps to manage and preserve books better, but also makes it easier for readers to find them.
"Over the years, the Vinh Mo village community bookstore has become a cultural address for people in the village and neighboring localities. Currently, the number of books at the community bookstore is constantly increasing to meet the reading needs of the people," Mr. Tien shared.
According to Mr. Vu Van Anh, manager of the community bookstore, the bookstore was built in a hexagonal shape to create an open space and get natural light to better serve readers. Currently, Mr. Vu Van Hien's family is investing in many new items to serve the people. Most recently, the installation of a heat-resistant roof system on the 3rd floor and an electric elevator to create conditions for the elderly and children to visit and read books. The number of books is also regularly updated and supplemented to serve readers.
Spread reading culture
The regulations of the Vinh Mo village community bookstore clearly state that the bookstore was built to promote reading culture, contribute to improving knowledge for the community; encourage and motivate the young generation to have more determination and a spirit of learning to become talents to build their homeland and country. The bookstore is open for free and creates all favorable conditions for readers. Every weekend, not only people in the commune but also many people from neighboring localities come here to read books and research documents.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh in Thanh Mien town often takes his children to the Vinh Mo village community bookstore every Sunday. He himself loves reading history books, so he wants to spread the reading culture to future generations. "Instead of staying at home watching TV or using the phone, I often take my children to the bookstore to read comics and learn about the history of building and defending the country. The children are very excited and interested. I hope that localities in the province will have more community bookstores like the one in Vinh Mo village so that people can access official information instead of information floating on social networks," said Mr. Tuan Anh.
Since the Vinh Mo village community bookstore opened, Tran Thanh Binh (11 years old) from Le Hong commune has often come here to read books and newspapers. He was surprised by the number of books, magazines and documents displayed in the bookstore. Among them, the area that impressed him the most was the area that kept the memorabilia and achievements of Mr. Vu Van Hien's family.
"My friends and I often come here to read books. Thanks to that, we have more useful knowledge to serve our studies. We will strive to study well and contribute to our homeland and country," Binh shared.
According to regulations, the Vinh Mo village community bookstore is only open on weekends. However, the Management Board always creates conditions for people to visit and read books on holidays and Tet.
