Nguyen Thuy Linh lost to world No. 13 Yeo Jia Min in the final, thereby winning the runner-up position at the German Open for the second time.
On the evening of March 2, athlete Nguyen Thuy Linh (ranked 29th in the world) faced Yeo Jia Min (Singapore, ranked 13th in the world) in the final of the 2025 German Open Badminton Tournament.
There were no surprises when Yeo Jia Min easily defeated Nguyen Thuy Linh with scores of 21-16 and 21-17.
In the first set, Yeo Jia Min quickly took the lead, leading 9-2 after just over 10 minutes. The Singaporean No. 1's flexible control and solid play made things difficult for Thuy Linh.
Despite her efforts to attack the left corner, forcing her opponent into a defensive position, Thuy Linh still could not neutralize the superiority of the number 1 seed. She closed set 1 with a score of 16 - 21 after letting Yeo Jia Min maintain the lead.
In set 2, the match was not better as Yeo continued to demonstrate a diverse skill set, from precise finishing to unpredictable ball control.
Thuy Linh created pressure in the later stages, but could only save 1 championship-point before losing 17-21, watching her opponent win the championship. This is the second consecutive year Thuy Linh has won the runner-up position at the German Open.
Before the final, Thuy Linh had an impressive tournament. Seeded 6th, she successively defeated Leonice Huet (France), Aakarshi Kashyap (India) and Tasnim Mir (India), losing only 1 set in the quarterfinals.
In the semi-finals, the Vietnamese player defeated Riko Gunji (Japan) with a score of 21-17, 21-19, while other strong seeds were all eliminated early, showing that Thuy Linh completely deserved her position in the final match.
