The Hai Duong archery team has completed its competition program at the 2024 National Archery Championship, with 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal, all thanks to archer Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu.
The second gold medal Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu won was in the men's 1-string bow individual qualifying event, Olympic event. The previous gold medal Phi Vu won was in the men's 1-string bow event, distance 90 m - the most difficult event, the longest distance in archery and equal to the Olympic achievement.
In the individual qualifying event, the athletes are randomly drawn and compete in a knockout match. The better archer will continue, the loser will have to stop. In this event, Phi Vu successively surpassed 5 opponents to win the gold medal.
In addition to the two gold medals, Phi Vu also won a silver medal in the men's 70m single-reed bow. Phi Vu's achievement helped the Hai Duong team exceed the target of one gold medal.
In this highest Vietnamese archery tournament, the two brothers who are on the national youth team, Pham Tran Bao Huy and Pham Tran Hoang of Hai Duong, did not achieve any results but had important experiences for the next tournaments.
According to the Hai Duong Sports Training, Coaching and Competition Center, this is Phi Vu's best achievement in the past 2 years. Especially recently, the appearance of Korean expert Yeong Seo Yoon has helped the level of Hai Duong archers improve significantly.
