On October 6, Da Nang City Police announced that they had just administratively fined Mr. HNS (residing in Cam Le district) 7.5 million VND for providing false information about students in the mountainous area of Quang Nam eating rats.
Previously, social networks shared and commented on information about students in the mountainous district of Nam Giang, Quang Nam coming to school with a lunch box of rat meat. After verification, the Department of Information and Communications of Quang Nam determined that this information was spread from a social network page managed by Mr. HNS in Da Nang City.
The Nam Giang district government has verified and determined that the photo of "student lunch boxes with rat meat" is fake information.
The incident originated from a highland culinary culture contest organized by a kindergarten in Nam Giang in 2019. When a teacher saw a parent bring a lunch box with a piece of mountain rat meat inside, he took a picture and shared it in a private chat group.
From here, this image was released and recently posted on social networks, causing many mixed comments.
In a press release, the People's Committee of Nam Giang district affirmed that it was a misinterpretation of false information from the original photo, because the habit of eating mountain rats (or squirrels) of the highland people is a very normal thing.
After consolidating the case, Da Nang City Police determined that Mr. HNS had taken advantage of social media to provide false information. Pursuant to Point a, Clause 1, Article 101 of Decree No. 15/2020/ND-CP, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Da Nang City Police issued a decision to administratively sanction Mr. S. with a fine of 7.5 million VND.
