As an easy sport to play, it also exercises and trains the whole body, volleyball is increasingly practiced by many people in Tu Ky.
Every day, after 5 pm, the cultural house yard of the villages of Chi Minh commune is crowded with people playing volleyball, some fields have 2-3 teams playing. Outside, there are many people cheering and waiting for their turn, bustling with laughter. Mr. Nguyen Van Du, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Chi Minh commune, said that he did not know when volleyball was first played by the people of Chi Minh commune, but in recent years it has developed strongly. Not only men but also women participate. People play from early morning until the field is lit up.
Compared to many other sports, volleyball is probably simple and does not require high skills, so it is chosen by many people. "Every day, hundreds of people in the commune play volleyball. For many people, playing volleyball is like eating and drinking every day, except when it rains, they do not go out to practice," Mr. Du affirmed.
Not only in Chi Minh commune, the volleyball movement is developing strongly in many other communes such as Lac Phuong, Tien Dong...
According to Ms. Hoang Thi Xoan, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Tien Dong Commune, each village in the commune has at least one volleyball team. To have such a vibrant volleyball movement, in addition to the passion of each person, the Commune People's Committee and associations at all levels also organize many activities to promote the movement. Every year, the Commune People's Committee or organizations organize 2-3 exchanges between teams in the commune and with neighboring communes. The commune also supports funding for organizations when organizing volleyball tournaments. Because of their love for this sport, many units and individuals support funding when the locality organizes tournaments, contributing to building a soccer field, buying equipment, clothes, etc.
"Because of the passion of the people and the attention of the government, the volleyball movement of the commune has developed strongly. Tien Dong commune contributed 4 athletes from the volleyball team of Tu Ky district to participate in the recent Golden Rice Volleyball Tournament of the province," said Ms. Xoan.
According to the representative of the Tu Ky District Farmers' Association, each commune in the district has 2-3 farmers' volleyball teams. In addition, there are also teams of the Women's Union, the Elderly Association, etc. attracting thousands of people to practice. Tu Ky District also has many activities to encourage the movement such as regularly organizing competitions and exchanges that attract a large number of communes to participate. In 2023, the Tu Ky District Farmers' Association is one of the few units in the province to organize the Agribank Cup Men's Volleyball Championship.
Those passions were rewarded by the fact that in the "Golden Rice" Volleyball Tournament recently organized by the Provincial Farmers' Association, the volleyball team of the Tu Ky District Farmers' Association won all the matches participating in the tournament.
No matter how busy she is, Nguyen Thi Luyen in Kim Xuyen village (Chi Minh commune) spends at least 1 hour every afternoon playing volleyball. Ms. Luyen said she has been playing volleyball for 4-5 years. Since playing this sport, she has felt her health improve significantly, her body feels refreshed, her shoulders and neck no longer hurt like before, and her limbs are more flexible. "I feel my fatigue disappear after the matches. When we go to the volleyball field, we get to meet each other and talk about many things, so we can share and understand each other more," Ms. Luyen said.
The volleyball movement in Tu Ky has spread and developed strongly, attracting many ages to participate. There is not a day that Mr. Ngo Van Phu in Lac Phuong commune does not go to the court to play a few sets of volleyball, if he does not go to the court, it feels like something is missing. "Playing this sport requires almost no equipment, and the ball smashes do not require too much strength, so it is suitable for many ages," said Mr. Phu.
Playing volleyball brings practical benefits to players and is also receiving attention from authorities at all levels, so this movement will certainly develop and spread more strongly in Tu Ky in the coming time.
