A man in Nghe An drank alcohol and was poisoned by Methanol, fell into a coma and stopped circulating.
On December 6, the Anti-Poison Department (Nghe An General Hospital) announced that the department had just received two patients with methanol poisoning.
Specifically, on November 28, patient D.TT (41 years old, residing in Vinh City) was admitted to Nghe An Orthopedic Trauma Hospital in a coma and out-of-hospital circulatory arrest.
Here, doctors performed first aid and restored the pulse, then transferred the patient to Nghe An General Hospital in a state of deep coma, dilated pupils, and severe metabolic acidosis. Doctors quickly performed emergency resuscitation with mechanical ventilation and blood filtration, but the patient died the same day.
On the same day, patient LXĐ. (48 years old, residing in Vinh City, drank alcohol with patient Đ.TT) was hospitalized with symptoms of headache, blurred vision, and fatigue.
The blood methanol test result was 63.85 mg/100ml. The doctors at the Poison Control Department performed IHD dialysis once. On December 1, the patient regained consciousness, had blurred vision, and asked to be discharged from the hospital.
According to the Poison Control Department, methanol poisoning is very dangerous, with a high mortality rate, especially in late cases. If hospitalized too late, the patient may die from multiple organ failure and severe metabolic acidosis.
It is known that in the past year, the Poison Control Department received more than 100 patients with methanol poisoning, of which 30-40 were severe cases requiring dialysis.
In the last months of the year, the demand for alcohol and beer increases due to many places organizing festivals, year-end parties..., alcohol poisoning tends to increase, especially during the time near Tet. Therefore, people should use alcohol with clear origin and limit the use of alcohol to ensure health.
