The United States won five more gold medals on the eighth official day of competition at the Paris Olympics, returning to second place in the overall standings, behind China.

American stars Katie Ledecky and Simone Biles both shined to bring home gold medals on August 3, in the women's 800m freestyle and the gymnastics vault, respectively. This gold medal helped Ledecky equal Michael Phelps' record of winning four consecutive gold medals in the same event. Biles raised her record to 7 Olympic gold medals of all time.
