Bloomberg news agency on January 25 quoted informed sources as saying that the US and UK will apply new sanctions against key leaders of the Houthi forces in Yemen.

According to sources, the two countries will freeze assets and impose travel bans on at least four senior Houthi figures.

On January 23, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that the UK plans to announce new sanctions in the coming days against the Houthi forces behind attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

Mr Sunak said he was working closely with the US and planned to announce new sanctions in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Houthi forces said they would continue to attack Israeli-linked ships until aid reaches Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The Houthis have previously demanded the expulsion of US and British citizens working for the United Nations in areas under their control in Yemen - a move the UN has rejected as inappropriate.

The request came after US and British forces carried out airstrikes on suspected Houthi sites in Yemen.
