On the afternoon of the 30th of Tet Giap Thin 2024, many workers were still wandering around the streets of Hai Duong City to earn a living, hoping to earn more income and provide their families with a full and cozy Tet.

It was 2 p.m. on the 30th of Tet, but Ms. Doan Thi Hoa (47 years old), from Gia Luong commune (Gia Loc), was still busy shining shoes on the sidewalk of Ham Nghi street. In the days leading up to Tet, she increased the price of shoe shining from 15,000 VND to 20,000 VND/pair of shoes. The number of people hiring her to shine shoes increased 2-3 times compared to normal days, earning her a daily income of 800,000 VND to 1 million VND per day. For 24 years, she has been making a living by shining shoes in Hai Duong city and every year at 6 p.m. on the last day of the new year, she returns to her hometown with her family to prepare for New Year's Eve.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan (67 years old), from the old Ha Tay, now Hanoi, still tries to collect scrap metal in the hope of earning some extra income. Ms. Xuan has been collecting scrap metal in Hai Duong City for 13 years, and she has not returned to her hometown for 8 years. Every year on the 30th of Tet, she does not return to her rented room until 8 pm.

Mr. Dinh Van Nam (48 years old), in Binh Han ward, works as a mechanic, but every year on the 30th of Tet, he takes the opportunity to sell balloons until after New Year's Eve before returning home.
