A person in Nghe An was scammed of nearly 1 billion VND after a call threatening to block the SIM card.

On November 12, the leader of Cat Van commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province, said that a woman residing in this commune had just reported being scammed online and losing 900 million VND.

Initial information said that on November 11, Ms. NTD (born in 1977, residing in Cat Van commune, Thanh Chuong district) received a notice that her two-way phone SIM card would be locked. Ms. D was then instructed to unlock the phone SIM card. The scammers tricked Ms. D into transferring money to unlock it.

The woman was then tricked into going to the bank to transfer 900 million VND to the scammer. After realizing she had been scammed, Ms. D ran to the commune police station to report the matter and cried.

According to the leader of Cat Van commune, Ms. D's family is a farmer. Ms. D has 2 grown children who work far away and send money to their parents, but now all of it has been scammed.

Currently, Cat Van commune police are continuing to work to verify this incident and then investigate the case.

Recently, the Cat Van commune has stepped up its efforts to raise awareness about online fraud. In addition to broadcasting to hamlets through loudspeakers, the police have also sent out articles and information about fraud to warn people. However, some people are still being scammed out of money online.

Previously, over the past month, dozens of people in Thanh Tien, Thanh Lien, Thanh An, Thanh My, Vo Liet communes... (Thanh Chuong district) were scammed out of billions of dong online.

Thanh Chuong District Police have received some information about people being scammed online. However, most of the subjects are abroad, using high technology to carry out the scam, so the fight and investigation are difficult.

In the coming time, Thanh Chuong District Police will strengthen coordination in propaganda work to each family and neighborhood to prevent online fraud.
