On the evening of September 17 (local time), Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad announced that eight people were killed, including a young girl, and about 2,750 people were injured in pager explosions across the country on the same day.

Previously, the armed group Hezbollah said its members still used this means of communication.

In a televised press conference, Minister Abiad said more than 200 of the injured were in critical condition with injuries mainly reported to the face, hands and abdomen.

On the same day, Iranian state media reported that the country's Ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was also injured in the incident, but the wound was "only superficial" and Mr. Amani was "conscious and not in danger."

Immediately after the incident, Hezbollah blamed the Israeli army for actively causing this incident and threatened that Tel Aviv would face "appropriate punishment."

Speaking at a press conference after the incident, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric found the latest developments in Lebanon extremely worrying given the already tense atmosphere and was closely monitoring the situation, while regretting the loss of civilian lives.

For their part, although they have not yet officially commented on the series of pager explosions mentioned above, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have met to assess the security situation after the incident.
