Man Utd reached an agreement to sign defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte from PSG for a total fee of 67 million USD.
The Old Trafford team agreed to pay an initial price of 56 million USD to PSG, the remaining 11 million USD will be paid based on performance. According toSky Sports, Man Utd are satisfied with the money spent on the 23-year-old midfielder who stands out with his ability to compete and recover the ball.
Ugarte topped Ligue 1 last season for tackles (98) despite starting just 21 games. Last year, the Uruguayan midfielder cost PSG $68 million to sign from Sporting Lisbon. However, Ugarte did not fit Luis Enrique's style, so PSG were willing to let him go.
Initially, the Parc des Princes team wanted to collect the same amount of money they spent to recruit Ugarte. However, Man Utd successfully convinced the French club to reduce the price. This is considered another success of the transfer team that Man Utd has just appointed.
Ugarte's desire to play for Man Utd also contributed to speeding up the progress of this deal. The 23-year-old midfielder will arrive in England today, August 27, to undergo a medical and sign a contract.
Previously, Man Utd sold Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley to make room in the squad for Ugarte. In parallel with this deal, the "Red Devils" are also completing the final procedures to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli for 33 million USD.
Ugarte was left out of PSG's Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre, which the defending champions won 4-1. He will become Man Utd's fifth signing of the summer transfer window in 2024, following Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. In total, the Old Trafford club have spent $251 million this summer.
