The festival part of the Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival (Hai Phong) will move from 7:30 a.m. on September 11 to September 21.
On the evening of September 9, the People's Committee of Do Son district issued Notice No. 451/TB-UBND on changing the time of the Do Son traditional buffalo fighting festival in 2024 to focus on overcoming the severe consequences caused by storm No. 3 in Hai Phong city.
The ceremony will organize rituals according to traditional time and rituals; the festival will be moved from 7:30 a.m. on September 11 to September 21. Accordingly, the invitation to the festival on September 11 (ie August 9 of the lunar calendar) will be used for September 21 (ie August 19 of the lunar calendar).
The traditional buffalo fighting festival of Do Son district was restored in 1990 and recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in Decision No. 5079/QD-BVHTTDL dated December 27, 2012 on the announcement of the list of national intangible cultural heritages of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Vice Chairman of Do Son District People's Committee Pham Hoang Tuan said that the traditional Do Son buffalo fighting festival is held annually in the 8th lunar month with the ceremony held from the 1st to the 16th of the 8th lunar month and the festival held on the 9th of the 8th lunar month.
In 2024, the People's Committee of Do Son district has built a system of documents and prepared facilities to serve the organization of the festival (grounds, allocation, selection and care of buffaloes; fundraising, printing and issuing invitations, cards, etc.).
In addition, the District People's Committee has also organized traditional ceremonies: Incense offering and flag raising ceremony (August 1st lunar month), water procession ceremony (August 7th lunar month).
Storm No. 3 hit Hai Phong, damaging commercial and service establishments in the tourist area. The central stadium area of the district - the venue for the festival - was severely damaged.
Currently, the locality is facing difficulties in repairing the electricity, water, and communication systems throughout the district, and is unable to ensure the progress of completing facilities to serve the people and tourists attending the festival.
