Following an overnight Israeli airstrike on the Baalbek area in Lebanon, Hezbollah said it had launched more than 60 Katyusha rockets at Israeli military positions in the Golan Heights in retaliation.
On May 16, Hezbollah forces in Lebanon announced that they had launched more than 60 Katyusha rockets at Israeli military positions in the Golan Heights in retaliation for airstrikes on the Baalbek area in the east of the country last night.
The Baalbek area in the Bekaa Valley, bordering Syria, is a stronghold of Hezbollah forces.
Earlier in the day, Lebanese state media reported an overnight Israeli airstrike on the Hezbollah-controlled Baalbek area, hours after the group launched an attack deep into Israeli territory.
Lebanon's official national news agency said the outskirts of the eastern Lebanese mountains suffered five attacks at midnight on May 14 local time (morning of May 15 Vietnam time).
According to the news agency, the Israeli attack slightly injured one citizen and caused a fire.
A source close to Hezbollah said one of the Israeli strikes targeted a Hezbollah military base.
Meanwhile, an Israeli military spokesman confirmed that airstrikes were carried out deep inside Lebanese territory against Hezbollah targets.
A day earlier, Hezbollah launched a drone at a military base near the Israeli city of Tiberias.
This is one of the deepest attacks into Israeli territory since the conflict between the two sides broke out on October 8, 2023.
According to statistics, cross-border clashes have claimed the lives of at least 413 Lebanese people, including dozens of civilians.
Meanwhile, Israel said 14 soldiers and 10 civilians were killed in the area bordering Lebanon.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated after Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets toward Israel in a show of support for the Gaza Strip's Hamas Islamist movement in its conflict with Israel. In response, Israel fired heavy artillery into southeastern Lebanon.
