Even when we are seriously ill, love still plays a huge role, like a spiritual medicine that helps us overcome illness.

The couple had their wedding ceremony held by doctors and nurses right in the hospital room.

Recently, the special wedding story of a couple on a hospital bed has moved many people. Even more gratifying is that the groom has made a spectacular recovery and returned to his family.

Many people still say that love and optimistic thinking will help us overcome all difficulties in life. And even when we are seriously ill, that love still plays a huge role in helping us overcome the disease.

Many families give up when they see their loved ones in such a serious condition. But there are also families who try until the last minute. As in the case of groom H., the family's determination has given us doctors and nurses more motivation to fight for the patient's life.

The Power of Love

A week before the wedding, Mr. H. (32 years old, living in Lang Son province) was suddenly hospitalized in critical condition. At that time, the doctor said that Mr. H. had septic shock, pneumonia, respiratory failure, multiple organ failure, and a high mortality rate.

During the treatment, there were times when Mr. H. thought he would not survive. The doctors tried their best, hoping that "where there is life, there is hope".

Doctor Nguyen Thanh Do, Lang Son General Hospital, recounted the days in the hospital when the patient's parents stayed up all night quietly taking care of their child, while Ms. NA (Mr. H's fiancée) was always present at the patient's bedside taking care of her husband-to-be.

When they learned that Mr. H.'s wedding was scheduled for March 22, the doctors and nurses decided to hold a small wedding right at the hospital to make the patient and his family happy and give them more motivation to fight the disease.

"Perhaps thanks to the motivation and care not only from the doctors and nurses but also from his family and wife, Mr. H. gradually regained consciousness, recovered his health and was discharged from the hospital," said Dr. Do.

Dr. Do added that many studies around the world have also talked about the endogenous hormone when people feel happy - dopamine. Dopamine helps the heart, blood pressure and many parts of the body.

"We don't have specific studies, but from the cases I have treated, or specifically Mr. H., we can clearly see how the love, care of the family and the optimism of the patient have helped them overcome the disease," said Dr. Do.

Hold hands to overcome illness

Sitting next to her husband during a routine health check-up, Ms. Dang Thi Minh Nguyet (born in 1942, living in Hanoi) held her husband's hand and said with a smile: "I still remember what my husband said at that time. 'I will try to cure my illness to live with you and our child'. That was a word of encouragement that gave me more motivation to fight the disease."

Mrs. Nguyet said 26 years ago, when they were both preparing to retire, they thought they would have a peaceful old age with their children and grandchildren, but then illness struck. She was diagnosed with colon cancer.

"I immediately thought that having cancer was a death sentence. At that time, I was very confused," Ms. Nguyet recalled.

Mr. Phan Si Lien (Mrs. Nguyet's husband) sitting next to her added that at that time he was also very confused, at that time cancer was still something very terrible. But to encourage his wife, he told her to try to overcome it because the doctor said the disease could be cured.

Since then, the husband has taken care of his wife single-handedly throughout her treatment, living with her for 26 years with cancer.

Doctor Doan Huu Nghi (former doctor at K Hospital - who treated Ms. Nguyet) shared that 26 years ago, Ms. Nguyet was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the late stages, with metastasis and was indicated for surgery.

After surgery, the patient received radiation and chemotherapy and responded well to the medication.

"Perhaps thanks to her husband's optimism and attentive care, the patient overcame the serious illness and was able to live a healthy life all these years," said Dr. Nghi.

Sharing how important spirit is when suffering from a serious illness, Dr. Ha Ngoc Cuong (neurology specialist at Phu Tho General Hospital) said that up to now, in medical literature, there have been many studies showing that people with an optimistic and cheerful spirit can overcome difficulties and incidents more easily.

"Some studies around the world also show that cancer patients who have positive, optimistic thinking, accept their circumstances, and accept treatment will have better treatment results than patients with negative, pessimistic, and depressed thinking," Dr. Cuong shared.
