The Investigation Police Agency, Thai Binh Provincial Police, has issued a decision to prosecute and issue a temporary detention order for the defendants who are officers, reporters, and employees of the Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine.
The above decisions and orders have been approved by the People's Procuracy of Thai Binh province.
The defendants prosecuted include: Pham Hong Duong (born in 1981, residing in Nghia Trung commune, Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province), Head of the Northwestern representative office; Pham Ngoc Hoang (born in 1989, residing in group 6, Bac Hong ward, Hong Linh town, Ha Tinh province), Head of Media Department; reporters of the Northwestern representative office include Nguyen Van Binh (born in 1990, residing in Trung Van ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi), Nguyen Duc Anh (born in 1996, residing in Le Mao ward, Vinh city, Nghe An province), Nguyen Tien Dung (born in 1988, residing in zone 1, Huong Non commune, Tam Nong district, Phu Tho province); Tran Thi Thuy (born in 1981, residing in Nghia Trung commune, Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province), accountant of the Northwestern representative office.
The defendants were subject to temporary detention, except for defendant Tran Thi Thuy, who was subject to preventive measures of being prohibited from leaving her place of residence.
As previously reported by Vietnam News Agency, on September 25, 2024, based on collected documents and evidence, the Investigation Police Agency, Thai Binh Provincial Police Department issued a decision to prosecute the case of "Extortion of property" occurring at the Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine according to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 170 of the Penal Code.
On October 1, 2024, the Investigation Police Agency, Thai Binh Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute and issue a temporary detention order for the following defendants: Dong Xuan Thu (born in 1972, residing in Lang Ha ward, Dong Da district, Hanoi city, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine); Nguyen Thi Anh Hong (born in 1977, residing in Linh Nam ward, Hoang Mai district, Hanoi city, Deputy Editor-in-Chief); Bui Van Toan (born in 1980, residing in Chuong Duong ward, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi city, Head of Environmental Economics Department); Cao Thi Thu Huong (born in 1989, residing in Ta Thanh Oai commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi city, accountant); Nguyen Ngoc Tuyen (born in 1989, residing in Vu Chinh commune, Thai Binh city, reporter); Nguyen Tat Trien (born in 1978, residing in Tran Lam ward, Thai Binh city, reporter); Dang Van Phuc (born in 1986, residing in Binh Minh commune, Thanh Oai district, Hanoi city, reporter); Vu Duc Lan (born in 1981, residing in Xuan Phuong ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi city, reporter).
Expanding the investigation of the case, on December 24 and 25, 2024, the Investigation Police Agency, Thai Binh Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute 9 defendants who are officers and reporters of the Vietnam Environment and Urban Magazine for the act of "Extortion of property" prescribed in Article 170 of the Penal Code, including: Vu Dinh Nam (born in 1972, residing in Thong Nhat ward, Pleiku city, Gia Lai province), Head of the Central Highlands representative office); Hoang Thi Minh Thanh (born in 1982, residing in Ben Got ward, Viet Tri city, Phu Tho province); Ta Phuong Thao (born in 1993, residing in My Dinh 2 ward, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi); Le Hong Ke (born in 1982, residing in Ha An, Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province); Nguyen Thi Huong (born in 1994, residing in Dich Vong Hau ward, Cau Giay district, Hanoi); Dang Van Nan (born in 1981, residing in Le Loi, Bac Giang city, Bac Giang province); Nguyen Van Duong (born in 1986, residing in Quynh Thach commune, Quynh Luu district, Nghe An province); Dinh Van Nga (born in 1976, residing in Hai Chau district, Da Nang city); Nguyen Thanh Tam (born in 1979, residing in Yen Do ward, Pleiku city, Gia Lai province).
Of these 9 defendants, Hoang Thi Minh Thanh and Ta Phuong Thao were subject to the preventive measure of being prohibited from leaving their place of residence, while the remaining defendants were subject to the preventive measure of temporary detention.
